It is one of the most famous stories in rock and roll history. While the rest of Fleetwood Mac was busy in the main room of the Record Plant in Sausalito, struggling through the tension of the Rumours sessions, Stevie Nicks felt a pull toward something different. She snuck away into a small, velvet-drenched studio room—supposedly belonging to Sly Stone—equipped with nothing but a Fender Rhodes keyboard and a circular bed.
The Birth of a Legend
“I sat on the bed with my keyboard and I wrote ‘Dreams’ in about 10 minutes,” Stevie Nicks famously recalled. In that brief window of solitude, she captured the ethereal, haunting essence of a relationship in flux. She didn’t need hours of tweaking or a room full of producers; the song was already there, waiting to be channeled.
When she brought it back to the band, they weren’t initially convinced. It was a simple two-chord progression, but as Lindsey Buckingham began to layer those iconic guitar swells and the rhythm section locked into that hypnotic “heartbeat” groove, it became the masterpiece we know today.
Bringing that Focus to the Stage
In our own rehearsals in Greeley, it reminds us that the best music comes from a place of pure, unfiltered emotion. When we start to perform Dreams to our audiences across the Front Range, we will strive to recreate that exact atmosphere—that sense of being in a quiet, mystical room where magic can happen in an instant.
A Staple of the Dreams Unwind Experience
For our Northern Colorado Fleetwood Mac fans, Dreams is always a highlight of the set. It’s a song that requires a delicate touch; it’s about the space between the notes as much as the notes themselves. We’ve spent hours dialing in the specific “shimmer” of the keyboard and the iconic, steady pulse of the bass to ensure that when we play those first two chords, you are transported back to that 1977 studio session.
As we prepare for our 2026 tour dates, we are keeping the spirit of that 10-minute miracle alive. Stay tuned for our upcoming show announcements in Greeley, Fort Collins, and Denver—we can’t wait to share this dream with you.
